A Wider Horizon is the solo project of Jacob Seal, a 46-year-old FPGA engineer and lifelong musician based in Fino Mornasco, Italy. Though American by origin, Seal has built a basement studio in the Como region where he crafts deeply personal alternative soundscapes that draw from shoegaze, grunge, and dream pop traditions. After years of working within band structures, this marks his first fully independent release—a project where he maintains complete creative control as writer, producer, mixer, and mastering engineer.
Built on the belief that growth begins beyond the familiar, A Wider Horizon embraces curiosity over limitation, both musically and personally. Despite the demands of full-time work and raising a young child, Seal has dedicated late-night hours to bringing his vision to life, collaborating remotely with a Brazilian vocalist whose layered harmonies elevate his compositions and an Italian session drummer who brings dynamic energy to the arrangements.

A Wider Horizon‘s “Silent Eulogy” doesn’t try to grab you right away — it just kind of settles in, the guitars washed out and blurred under a melody that never fully lands anywhere. There’s a clear ’90s alt-rock backbone here, but the band leans hard into the floatiness of shoegaze haze and dream pop, so the whole thing feels more like drifting than driving. The voice sits low in the mix, half-buried in echo, somewhere between a whisper and a memory you’re trying to hold on to.
