Ferdinand Rennie: “Chase the Sun” Music Review
I’ve had my “Chase the Sun” repeat for some days now, and it just keeps growing on me. There are real warm temperatures, the kind you get from artists who undoubtedly grew up loving the Beach Boys and the Beatles. Ferdinand Rennie doesn’t try to hide an effect, and simply, that’s part of the charm. The vocals are comfortable and smooth on the ear, and the whole has this sunny, unhurried feel that perfectly matches the title. Nothing presumably feels that rushed or overworked, it just sounds like a song that wanted to make.
What I like most is that it won’t try too hard to be a hit. On soft rock, the groove leans into the pop rock form, and the refrain sneaks up on you until you’re humming unnoticed. It’s the look of the screen you’ll put on during successive mornings or extended drives with the house windows down. Simple, real, and pretty comfortably average. If you’re into that traditional pop sound with a cutting-edge contact, “Chase the Sun” is really worth some time.
