Michael B Kowal: Alternative Rock, Country & Americana Music
Michael B Kowal is a Baton Rouge-based singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer whose music bridges the space between alternative rock, country, roots, and coastal Americana. A husband, father, and firefighter, Kowal writes from lived experience—drawing inspiration from road trips, family life, and the quiet moments where memory and melody intersect. His creative process is deeply personal and self-directed: he writes, arranges, performs, records, and produces his own material, building each project around guitar and voice before shaping the sound through intuitive production.
With influences ranging from Matchbox Twenty and Fuel to warmer, more introspective country and coastal tones, Kowal crafts songs tha balance emotional weight with natural feel, never sacrificing personality for polish. His extensive experience performing in intimate venues has sharpened his instinct for pacing and connection, qualities that translate directly into his recorded work.

Michael B Kowal’s Roads EP: Rock, Americana & Country Music
I put on Michael B Kowal’s EP “Roads” without any expectations, and within a minute I had already settled in. There’s a lived-in exceptional to these songs. You can hear 90s rock and indie rock within the guitar, a sliver of inner soul as the melodies bend, then alt-country, Americana and bluegrass creeping around the dusty edges in the street again and a trace of reggae and cinematic touches make some moments as meaningful as the rest of the film. His voice is anchored, warm and unforced, sounding like he’s telling a story as opposed to acting.
What I respect most is how comfortable the whole feels. Nothing feels rushed, and that area we could breathe in every tune. It’s the kind of file I put on a successive Sunday morning, long force and not using a real destination, or on a quiet night when the day ends if you’re longing for sincere, spontaneous music with a real man or woman, give “Roads” a spin and stay awhile.
