New Music Discovery: Made of Sand Release ‘Based on a Novel’.
Embrace the atmospheric world of Made of Sand as – following their debut ‘Come Find Me’ – the band release their new single, ‘Based on a Novel’. The track fuses ‘90s trip hop with elements of electronica, indie pop and shoegaze. ‘Based on a Novel’ offers a striking soundscape of beats, synths and guitar created by Dan Rolfe and Matthew Davis over which soars the stunning vocals of Lithuanian vocalist Aaron Fross. The song is penned by guitarist Matthew: “I was at home watching ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ and I was reading the credit ‘based on the novel by…’and it gave me the idea of a woman trapped in a dystopian nightmare where she no longer gets to write her own story.”
Matthew was formerly signed to EMI and has co-written with Grammy Award winner Daisy Chute and Stuart Moxham from the iconic band Young Marble Giants. Dan also releases electronic tracks under the alias ‘Lupic’ – as well as designing the band’s artwork. Dan and Matthew met Aaron in London where she was studying at the Academy of Contemporary Music. She combines her roots in Lithuanian folk music with more electronic pop influences.
