Oskar Brandt‘s first single “Now or Never” comes with a confidence not often heard from a primary launch. The Berlin-mainly based singer-songwriter builds the track from the bottom up, starting with sparse piano and its low, intimate vocals before the strings creep in and let the whole orchestra swell to the chorus this classic sequential-burning shape, but Brandt handles it with real restraint, It sits somewhere between cinema and ratings, never feeling overwhelmingly epic.
Lyrically, the track inhabits that precarious zone between people who nevertheless have feelings and no clean way forward, and Brandt resists the urge to overwrite it with undeniable, direct language, the more it paints, the more compelling the song.
