Pam Ross said of the song’s inspiration: “I wrote the song ‘Kansas’ while I was living in houses in Seabrook, Texas, and Galveston Bay. It was about going somewhere that was abandoned. Where no one knows you and wanting to escape painful memories Of the breakup… One time I drove from Kansas City and saw nothing but cow pasture for over 100 miles, so that location fit the theme I had in mind perfectly.”
