When a tune feels this herb, it’s clean to forget that you’re taking note of a new launch. Through The Big East, “Shiny Satellites” has an easy charm that draws you in from the first real guitar tone. The band leans into melodic indie rock with out overcomplicated matters, letting the songwriting do most of the speakme. The voice is comfortable and believable, sporting a quiet confidence that suits the angst flawlessly. Meanwhile, the guitars add just the right amount of sparkle, supported through a regular rhythm section that keeps the song moving at an inviting pace without chasing traits that are catchy, and that authenticity makes it stand out.
The refrain comes through clearly, leaving a melody that lingers long after the track has stopped. There’s a melancholy connection infused into the sound, but it by no means seems to be looking back.
