🎸 The Gilhoolys Bring Scottish Indie Rock Back
Glasgow indie rockers The Gilhoolys are Scottish cult legends who continue to defy expectations with their razor-sharp songwriting and electrifying live performances. Fronted by Dev, the band’s main songwriter and protagonist who first emerged on the indie scene in the 90s, The Gilhoolys regrouped in 2020 with bassist James “Cliffy” Clifford (ex-Cosmic Rough Riders & The Bodies) and made an explosive return when their comeback single “STAR” topped the Amazon Indie chart.

🎸 The Gilhoolys Bring Grit to “False Flag”
“False Flag” strikes as a melodic punch that reminds you why indie rock matters anyway. The Gilhoolys make music on strong pop-rock hooks, yet there can be grit underneath that never feels too polished or safe. The male vocals drive a lively good, assured, guitar-driven pace with outside tension like they’ve handled this 100 times before. It’s the kind of music that sneaks up on you, engaging enough for the primary listen but layered enough to reward the secondary.
What sets this tune apart is its composure. This is where nothing feels overwhelming; every hook, every riff earns its own territory. Gilhoolys really understand the difference between loud and impressive, and “False Flag” leans hard on the latter. There’s a rawness to the production that keeps things honest, electrifying the tune to stay real with a preference for brief sugar rushes. It’s a strong showcase of what this band does well and a really solid listen from start to finish.
