Chris Colepaugh & The Cosmic Crew – “The Work Makes Me” 🎸
There’s something clean about a band that just plays directly, and on “The Work Makes Me,” Chris Colepaugh & The Cosmic Crew do just that. It’s rock Americana with a whole band behind it, guitars up front, and vocals that sound like they’ve just lived through some things. Nothing here feels rushed or overthought. Colpaugh sings with the kind of grit you can’t fake, and the band behind him perform like they’ve been doing this together for years, hard yet by no means harsh.
What I like most is how uninterrupted the music is as a trend is. It’s just precise, sincere traditional rock songwriting, kind of built on real hooks and real senses instead of studio cues. The name is also used; There’s the spirit of a working guy going to wander through the whole thing. By the time it’s wrapped up, you’re not left reading it anymore. You’re just glad you hit the game. “The Work Makes Me” is the kind of music that sneaks up on your ordinary walks without you even noticing.
