Mental Gymnast: Hardcore Punk Meets Noise Rock 🎸
The Mental Gymnast wouldn’t just blur the lines of style — she would set up a bonfire to them and dance in the ashes. This EP slams hardcore punk into noise rock, then wriggles into wreckage with weird, unexpected hooks that guess from the primary riff to the finale. This is where the real muscle lies: distorted guitars snore through tight rock grooves, while the production stays raw enough to feel like it stays put, as the band recorded in one livid take. It’s cluttered within a loud, high-quality passage, and for once doesn’t feel forced in any way.
What a Mental Gymnast aside, though, is his coronary heart. The song brings an unapologetically political, LGBTQ-forward tone, delivered with wisdom instead of preachy — sharp enough to make you believe you studied, catchy enough to sing along.
