BLOODY RUN is a heavy shoegaze band emerging from the raw industrial heart of Detroit, Michigan, fusing crushing distortion with dreamlike melody to channel their city’s spirit into waves of cathartic, immersive sound. The five-piece collective—featuring Kyle Payne on vocals, Scott Souter and Mike Hallman on guitars, Donovan Powell on bass and synthesizers, and Hugo Rios on drums—came together through a shared passion for developing unique and heavy music that genuinely resonates.
Drawing inspiration from shoegaze, sludge, and electronic music, BLOODY RUN has carved out a distinctive sonic territory that bridges emotional depth with sonic intensity. “Lost River” feels like something heavy and beautiful is being dragged at the same time. BLOODY RUN lean into that north-rock shoegaze wall of sound, where the whole thing is wide, loud, and slightly immersed in itself The guitars just don’t play, they’re swollen and fouled to the side, as if they’re constantly on the edge of collapse. There’s real post-metal heaviness here, too, but it’s not a pretty heavy one for that — it’s almost exhausting in a way that feels emotional and sticks with you.
What strikes the most is yet how alive it is beneath all that noise. The voice nevertheless sits human buried as they fight to get through the distortion. Some moments feel almost shocking, and then they’re swallowed up once again using big waves of guitar and reverb. It’s no longer easy or best — it’s messy in the right kind of way. By the end, it’s not necessarily the “end” so much as it fades away, as if the river just flows out of you. That’s what works.
