Joe Rian: Blue-Collar Roots and Chicago Music
Joe Rian grew up in Rock Falls, Illinois — a small town kid raised by a Tool & Die man and a school bus driver who kept the radio locked on Kenny Rogers and Tanya Tucker. That blue collar upbringing never left him, and it shows up in every song he writes.
By the mid-90s, Joe had made his way to Chicago, playing in indie-rock bands around the city’s art loft scene and working at Buddy Guy’s Legends and The Moosehead, a legendary Chicago jazz and blues club, to make ends meet.

🎸 Joe Rian’s “Think Yer In Luv” Brings Retro Music Back
Joe Rian‘s “Think Yer In Luv” is a joyride immediately out of the golden age of guitar-driven pop, proudly carrying his Beach Boys and Beatles influences while carving out a sound that feels totally his own. From the first note, the track beats right into a retro groove made up of face-melting guitar graphics and rhythm moves that we by no means get over. There’s a traditional rock and roll heartbeat drifting through the entire tune, tinged with just enough rhythm and blues grit to make things feel alive instead of nostalgic for nostalgia’s sake.
What truly carries the track, though, is experiencing the joy of Rian‘s vocals — buoyant, expansive, and utterly unafraid of big-feeling it’s a form of tune that sounds tailored for summer energy with the same elements of throwback and fresh discovery down the house windows. Fans of roots rock and classic pop songwriting will discover a lot to like here, and newcomers will probably walk away trying to explore more of that catalog right now.
