🎵 Sean MacLeod Delivers Thoughtful Indie Pop Music
Sean MacLeod‘s fifth solo album That’s When the Earth Becomes a Star feels like the work of an artist with nothing left to show at the end and the whole thing left to mention. The Irish songwriter — a founding member of Dublin’s Cisco before stepping into his solo career — spends this file threading indie pop, jangly power pop hooks, synth-tinged textures and folk-rock warmth into something that never loses its melodic focus on “Take Control.” Tracks like (Don’t Let ‘Em)” open the album with shimmering guitars and immediate hooky restriction, replacing flash with the tone of a crafted record
What delays the album, though, is what’s under the hook. MacLeod uses that Beach Boys-and-Beatles-borrowed light to sneak in real questions of alienation, identity, and staying human in a hyper-digital global — at most “Inside Out” has this extraordinary balance strikingly: the songs warm enough to hum alongside, sharp enough to sit with for a while. A definitely beneficial pay attention from start to finish.
