Kavé: “Through Waves” Drifts Into Dreamy Soundscapes
Through Waves float through the cave like a half-remembered dream, wrapped in shimmering guitar notes that seem to breathe against the playing. From first inspection the tune settles into a murky soft atmosphere that blurs direction between dreampop and lo-fi, letting each chord ring with unhurried endurance expanding the soundscape lightly, layering gentle distortion and cinematography that feels intimate and vast, while the listener is drawn to cosmopolitan just underwater. There is a quiet confidence as Kavé we are able to keep silent as it sounds an awful lot of exertion.
What delays Through Waves, though, is its emotional undertow. Beneath the melancholic haze sits something surely joyous, an experience of the spoken that treats the outrage like a whispered recollection. The post-rock outbursts come lightly, never overwhelming the track’s sensitive middle, while the dark pop undertones upload just enough weight to ground and preserve it. It’s experimental enough that it doesn’t feel remote in any way, staring out the windows of the dwelling house, with a soundtrack to let time slip by.
